Be a Better Parent

Parenting Series

“It’s not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.” (Joyce Maynard)

Being an effective parent in today’s world is challenging. It involves making ongoing choices with an eye on both short and long-term outcomes. It involves balancing the willingness to protect your beloved ones, and at the same time, let them discover the world by themselves. It involves changing the role of teacher to student, then switching back again. It is a journey of discovery for all people involved.

To assist loving parents out there, the upcoming series of posts from our Life Coping Skills category will tackle complex parenting scenarios, such as “parenting problem adolescents”, “dealing with my child being bullied” and “parenting stepchildren”. We hope the tips and strategies provided will answer some of the complex questions that may arise from daily parenthood.

We also look forward to your involvement, so do not hesitate to drop your comments, add your insights and interact with each Blog post. Any suggestions and/or questions, write to me at blog@aipc.net.au.
