Violent, antisocial, beyond redemption?
![]()
This week, the New Scientist Magazine published an interesting article about an initiative, in the United Kingdom, to treat individuals who are deemed extremely violent and dangerous. Following is an excerpt of the article:
“…the government is rolling out an unprecedented treatment and research programme aiming to show it is possible to reduce the risks posed by the most dangerous violent offenders. Just like the changes to the law, the “Dangerous People with Severe Personality Disorder” (DSPD) programme is highly controversial. However, even critics concede that it holds the best chance yet of showing whether violent psychopaths can be reformed - and so psychiatrists worldwide will be watching.”
Do you think this programme could succeed? It is certainly an interesting perspective to solve a delicate societal problem. Let us know your thoughts – comment on this post or email us at blog@aipc.net.au.
